You get what you pay for : Millermatic 140c w/ Auto-Set
I bought a Chicago Electric MIG welder and then this MIllermatic. Using them both side by side was a lesson in why you spend the good money on a great tool vs. a cheap one. The Chicago Electric (Harbor Freight) has two settings, Min and Max. But even at the Min setting I was blowing through 22 and 24 gauge sheet all the time. The feed control was fine, but at the higher setting it wasn't fast enough to create a bead. The splatter was terrible, leading to burst and sloppy welds. It was like trying to weld with two blunt ends of an extension cord.
The Millermatic is a dream. Controls for various thicknesses of material. Feed controls that keep up with whatever setting you need. Right out of the box I put a bead down between to pieces of 14 gauge tube. It was beautiful. Welded 24 gauge sheet with no burn through, not even a dimple.
Used flux core and gas/steel with both welders 0.030
Bottom line is you get what you pay for.
